My Truck Died The Other Day Because Of Ground Problem . So I Double Grounded With New Wires From The Battery To Block And Then Block To Frame. Fired Right Up And With Lights On Electric Fan On No More Spike In Power Anymore , Idled The Same , Before It Would Draw Power When Lights Were On And Fan Was On , These Trucks Are Notorious For Ground Problems.good Luck , Might Have To Take It To The Man For Diagnosis.
ok, heres the deal, sorry to keep you waiting but i was out messing around with the truck since i got it started.
what i did was replace the ground from block to frame, block to firewall, and negitive cable(all with 4ga), then i put larger screws in the icm to hold it more securely to the fenderwell. i then proceeded to cut out the entire harness from the icm to dist/coil and totally rebuilt it with new weatherpack connectors and 14ga wire ect... then the truck miraculously fired up. my first guess was that it was probably a broken wire in the harness but when i saw that my faulty fuel gage was now working (hadnt been since i put it back together) i would have to say that it was a ground issue. I think that regrounding the icm solved the problem but i cant be sure because i did everything all at once..
I guess YOU would be the winner wouldnt you? I believe that you were the one to suggest the ground issue, and to check it at the ICM.
those of you that have been around this site for awhile really deserve an award, i wish i could buy you all a brew . this is the best site ever! i just wish i would have gotten involved sooner, instead of just reading old posts. there are alot of really GOOD people on this site that take time out of their days to help people that they dont even know. Keep up the good work "guru's"(and legends), i look forward to being involved in this site for a very long time.(more problems soon to come...lol)thanks again for keepin all those old fords rollin!!!
The total electrical grounding of your truck and engine will help your charging system, and every thing else that is electrical on your truck, make sure to use some electrical wrap and electrical tape on the loose wires to keep them from rubbing and bouncing around.
good job and thank for posting results.
