Charging problems

I have a 97 Expi. with the 5.4. I am having charging problems. It comes and goes. It has a 3 year old Napa battery. I clean the battery posts and cables and a week later they are very corroded again. The volt meter is jumping up and down. It seems to charge normal at higher RPM, like above 2500, let off the gas and the needle drops. I clean the cables and it seems to do ok for a while and then it,s back, any Ideas?

When I clean the corrosion off it seems to charge fine, for a while at least. But the corrsion (and I mean a lot) come back in about a week to ten days. Then charging problems, needle starts doing back flips from normal down to the bottom. Does that gauge monitor just the alternator or will battery problems cause it to act funny.

Try replacing the battery. That will probably take care of the corrosion problem.
