Thread Sealer

I am getting ready to assemble a 5.0. The manual I am using says "some bolts require thread sealer". Can someone please give me a source to find out which ones do. Head bolts, intake manifold, timing cover, water pump?

Also which sealers are most of you using. Different one for water, oil, exhaust gas exposure?

I usually use the red RTV sealer for those applications, Don't use the RTV on the Head bolts though just coat them with clean motor oil before torquing them to spec. Usually you only need to coat the threads of bolts that are directly exposed to oil and water passages like the water pump bolts and intake bolts for example. You should also use a small bead of RTV around water passage holes on the intake manifold gaskets and at the corner seams where the side and front intake gaskets meet. You should also use gasket adheasive on the front and rear intake gaskets to adhear them to the block before you torque the intake down. Make sure these gaskets have set up before you torque the intake down or they will most likely squeeze out of position. This is also a good thing to do on your valve cover gaskets, but glue these to the valve covers not the heads.

Thanks cujo8. Another forum said the lower head bolts and some of the timing cover bolts go into water passages also.
