Injector pump rebuilders response

Last month a post was up re- pump rebuilders. I just installed a rebuilt pump from Diesel Care and performance cost me 265 plus 100 core. I used the artical from oilburners web site as a guide. Oh my- what a differance, I guess my old pump with 245000Km was just plane old tired. Lots more snap, pushes a bit of black when tromped up a hill, sounds really good. Time will tell, but seems like a good product so far. 93- F350 7.3 N/A 4X4 E04D.

There are mixed reviews re that rebuilder, you sound lucky. Many complaints by others. Saving money is not allways the best program, try to go with a tried and true rebuilder with a good reputation for warranty and service.

IP Rebuilds

Well said PLC 7.3,

Here is my take on rebuilding the Stanadyne IP's.
  • $265 Canadian equals about $238.50 US
  • A trained respectable mechanic/technician will charge between $70 to $100 per hour
  • Equipment to properly test/calibrate a rebuilt pump costs several years of salary.
  • Stanadyne does not sell parts for the IP for free and a proper rebuild will require a lot of parts.
  • Stanadyne pumps are fuel lubricated and there will be many parts that are worn out due to frictional wear that must be replaced.
  • Any springs, seat, seal inside an old pump that has done a billion plus cylces and are sure to be worn out.
In order to make any kind of money on a rebuilt (other than putting in new orings and gaskets) you would have to rebuild a lot of pumps on a volume basis.

To those few who dedicate their lifes doing quality rebuilts - God bless them, they will be a precious commodity the day you won't be able to buy any new pumps anymore. Then again they will have trouble getting parts when the time comes - oh well bless them anyways.
Seb....

Diesel Care treated me great. I installed one of their pumps last year. The first pump I got would not start hot. Put a little cool water on it just about a cup, it would take right off. I called them about it. 2 days later UPS stopped with another pump. It was just tight tolerances when it was rebuilt that caused the hang up when hot with some of the new parts installed. Had nothing but great luck wiht this pump. They are turned up just a tad from them too. Now the truck is down for a 3 time due to the trans. Still a bad issue in it.
