Gears

Where can I find on the truck what gears I have, or do I call the ford dealer with my vin? The reason I ask is cuz my gas mileage sux compared to what others "say" they are getting.

There is a metal tag on both the front (if 4x4) and rear diff cover attached by one of the cover plate bolts. The mfg date, ring size and gear ratio is encoded on that tag.

Single rear wheel or dually? If it's a SRW it's got 3.73 gears.

Well I dont have an axle code om mine its blank?????? The tag on the rear diff sez S 409 F L 73 10 5 9K07

the L 73 part means it's a Limited Grip 3.73.

thanks srtokin for that, now to other prob why is my mileage off by so much, I'm getting around 10mpg no matter what, I dont have a heay foot!, I just service the tranny full flush, and got a new fuel filter hopefully that will help!
