Well I actually got my '91 Bronco running again, but I have a question...the fuel pump is getting power from a fuse under the dash...will this affect it? It only gets power when the key is on the "on/run" position so its currently working fine. I havent had time to trace the actual problem with the wiring but I am wondering if this will affect it in any way since it is bypassing the relay and any other fuse or regulator it may have in between...
This is what happened...I didn't have any fuel pressure, so I changed the fuel pump, still no pressure so I changed the pump relay and still no go...I checked for power at the connection and it showed 6.87 volts while disconnected from the pump. I figured it was at least enough to turn the pump some, but it didn't; so I applied 10.5 volts to the pump with a different battery and it worked. So I re-checked the power at the plug and again it showed 6.87 volts, I connected it to the pump and rechecked at the pump it was dead...so I got a wire connected it to a 30amp fuse uder the dash and connected it to the pump to supply power and it is working...
It might work... The concern is that the EEC computer will have no control over the pump. Its a failsafe, more than anything and as carriljc mentioned, without the pump wiring passeing through the interia switch, you run the rather dangerous risk of having the pump continue to run in the event the truck is involved in a collision EVEN if the engine dies, the pump will still run. Scary if a fuel line gets ruptured.
The inertia switch on my '90 Bronco is under the dash on the driver side. It takes a screwdriver to shut it off, but you should be able to push it in with your finger to reset it. Hope that helps you out.
