I don't particuilarly care for the C6 transmission and i was wondering if it was possible to switch it out with anything. Also how hard would it be to switch from a c6 to a T19 since they were the same era? Is that something that would bolt up or no?
The C6 is a solid trans what made you decide you were not a fan of them? I am not jumping you or anything I am just really suprised to see anyone who is not a C6 fan. I have abused and seen abused tons of these transmissions with no mercy what so ever and they always function well. Just a thought, if I were you I would reconsider the C6 unless your looking for overdrive or a manual trans.
i agree the c6 are good trannys..had many and never had anyprobs...but u can pretty well put anything u want in there....the e40d pretty well bolts right in..i just did a c6 to e4od swap in my new truck and all the parts were the same...but then u need a computer and harness and stuff that would be a pain....and to go to a stick would be the easy way jsut make sure u get the flywheel, center hump with cut out for the shifter all the pedals and linkages or lines and make sure u get all the bolts and little clips ....we did one a couple years ago and it was pretty easy swap..but i also agree unless u are going to a 5 speed or really hate the auto not really worth the time and money
I'm fairly new here, but I too am a fan of the C6's I have had over the years. I just retired an 87 f350 with a 460 gasser, plowed for 11 years with that truck, and showed it little mercy. Never had a problem. It was a solid tranny.
Personally, behind a diesel, I prefer a stick myself, but it depends what you want to get from a change as to whether it would be worth it or not, as the C6 is a good trans, but having that lower 1st gear is sure nice to have.
but having that lower 1st gear is sure nice to have.
i have no problem find a nice low gear with my C6. if i put the t-case in 4 low, i will wring the drive shafts out of my truck.
and this is no joke either. i have done it twice so far.
I just installed a Gear Vendors OverDrive behind my C6. It works great, you leave it on automatic and it shifts just like a 4 spd auto. I had one behind my Excursion AOD, so I swapped it. A new input shaft to swap the Gear Vendor behind whatever from behind whatever is $650. However, a new GearVendor if you can't find one is 3000-3500. If you do find a used one, you don't have to worry about it being messed up b/c they do not mess up hardly ever. They come new with a (i think) 5 year unlimited miles unlimited Horse power warranty.
Downside of the GV unit is that it is of no use under 25 mph, when it build up oil pressure to engage it's clutches. Other than that, it is nice to run.
i would agree that for an auto the C6 is yes, a very strong solid transmission. I just prefer a standard or one with OD. What kind of cost would it be to install a BW T19 myself for parts only?
