Ok got the part into today, however recieved no instructions other than what they guy told me. He said take the old one off, put the truck in reverse, and wiggle it around until the backup lights come on. If the back-up lights come on he said keep moving it until they go off agian, and then pick the middle.

Sound right? Any other help? Thanks so much so far guys! -myers

1. Set parking brake. Jack front end up if needed.
2. Put gearshift selector in Neutral.
3. Disconnect battery
4. Remove old switch.
5. Install new switch being sure its in the neutral position. It is marked.
6. Reconnect battery.
7. Move gearshift selector to Reverse and make sure backup lights come on. If they do not, adjust the switch via the slotted holes just enough for them to come on.

That's it. Your done.
Be sure you got the correct part for your year truck. The pinouts in the connector are different for later years.

Next question, two small rubber rectangles came in the box. They look like they go on top of the plug? They are different? Suggestions? -myers

This is a half hour job. Since your part included no instructions, you do not know what the plugs a for and believe me you do not need to know. My advice would be for you to sell the stinking truck because you will never complete this project in your liftime.

Well I switched it out, however first time out it still didn't shift into overdrive. It fought going in 4-5 times, the rpm would drop down, then rev up to where it was in drive, then drop down agian. Finaly it went into OD and the rpm dropped down to normal. I guess I won't know until I drive it for awhile if it worked completely.

Thanks so far everyone, hopefully this is the cure. -myers

tranny problem hard shift

I Have A 1994 F150 With The E4od Having The Same Problems. Trans Was Just Rebuilt And Still Have The Same Problem. The Trans Shop Says Their Scanner Shows A Vehicle Speed Sensor Code (vss) Which Is Located On The Rear Axle. The Vss Seems To Be Working Becuase The Speedometer Is Working Fine. Think The Problem Might Be In The Wiring Between The Speedometer And The Power Control Module (pcm) Just Guessing About Wiring. I Am Told The Hard Shift Is Becuase The Sensors Notice The Free Wheeling And Increase The Pressure In The Trans To Make It Shift. Probably Not Much Help. Still Trying To Find The Problem.

Sounds like for both of us it very well may be the VSS, as my speedometer sometimes goes randomly beserk... not very often, but just every once in awhile. -myers

It seems like a real pain, but these trannies have sooooooo many issues with sensors.
They use alot of inputs from the truck that controls all of the trannies functions.
The more I read the more I see simple things fixing the problems.
If the fluid has been changed, check for flow thru the cooler, then change the MLPS(You did), next the VSS, then TPS. If none of these fix it, I would replace the solenoid pack in the trans (around 150 from Ford).
I am going thru all of this myself.
My trans seems to be fine, nothing ugly in the pan, no burnt fluid, flows good through the cooler.
Now working on all of the sensors.
I figure that at between $250 and $300, I can replace all of this stuff and KNOW if my tranny is good or not.
My thinking maybe wrong but I think it's better to be out $300 and be done with the sensors, than to be wondering if it REALLY needed a rebuild.
Beside that, if I had mine rebuilt I'd put all of those sensors in new just to protect the new transmission.
