I have a 1996 thunderbird rear defrost switch. I have messed with it for a couple of days now and apparently cannot figure out the wiring. I cannot get it to stay on when I energize it to feed the heated mirrors. The wire colors and sizes are as follows. from left to right. 1. large wire ( brown with light blue tracer) 2. large wire( yellow ) 3. small wire ( purple with orange tracer ) 4. small wire ( black ) 5. small wire ( light blue with red tracer ). I have figured out the black wire appears to be ground that operates the dash illumination light, which is the light blue wire with the red tracer. I would asssume the 2 large wires are the 12 v source and accessory wire but I have yet to fgure out why it will not stay on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Byt he way the number on the side of the switch is f4sb-19a328-ab. Thanks so much for any help or advice.
Pardon me, I guess I should have said early on in the post. I am wiring a switch into the heated mirros on my SUPERDUTY truck, and as I have read on here before, people have used this thunderbird rear defrost switch to turn the heated mirrors on and off as opposed to being on all the time. So I guess we dont need the thunderbird site.
Well Leebak,I do know that there is a constant power source to the heated mirrors, when the truck is running.I personally have not messed with the wiring, but I know there is some threads on the forums with detailed pictures also.If I find it again I'll surely let you know,Al.
Why do people want to do this mod? In all my years of repairing I can't remember ever having the glass heater fail. Is there some reason that I am not aware of? I actually think that having it on all the time is kind of nice rather than have to keep cycling a timed switch.
