AC clutch

Hi, My air conditionning clutch is making noise. The rivets are loose and wonder if we can just replace the rivets or just buck them.

Anyone removed the clutch before? Any advice apreciated.

Thanks, Mike

there is a spanner wrench to hold the clutch while removing the nut. you can take the clutch off without loosing any freon. why did the rivets come loose ? usually they hold forever. look around the clutch to see if there is oily residue, leak in the compressor seal. You should be able to remove the compressor with little loss of freon, just close the backseat valves.

Don't know why they came loose. Do you know if it is expensive to replace the clutch? I went to autozone and the guy was saying around 150 to 200$, seems expensive for just the clutch, all I want is the little round wheel with the rubber in the middle.

When you take it apart, is it just the wheel / clutch that comes off or is there anything else coming out with it?

Thanks

Autozone will loan you their A/C clutch tool via their tool loan program. It's easy, you just hole the clutch in place with the tool, remove the nut and the clutch slides right off. Installation is in reverse.
Autozone's website shows that clutch at about $80, you must have been talking to one of the many knuckleheads that work at said parts store. Try again and make sure the employee actually looks up the part instead of guessing.

The store's fine it's the employees that are useless. But they have a good inventory, good prices, and the best auto store website out there. I usually just get the part number off the website and take it to the store to bypass the dumb employees.
