ok thank all of you for the help advice and just the other posts that had already been posted and solved helped make my truck work a lot quicker.
i finally got it working last night and it seems to be doing fine. only it wont start with the key. i put it to the on position to start the glow plugs and it wont connect to the starter for some reason. so for now i am just hitting the stater solonoid with some needle nose pliers, works for now but i would like to be able to start it normmaly at some point. it did work proper when i got the truck so somethign wnet amis while it was sitting.
The wire from the ignition switch to the soleniod went bad on mine about an inch from the solenoid. It looks like it was a strain point in the wire because it holds up several other wires by its connection to the solenoid.
my 1995 f150 had a simmilar problem where it was stuck in the run position. (the ignition would turn, but the power would be in the same place) It turned out there were a bunch of bad parts in the steering column that were causing the problem.
A simple test to try and isolate the issue would be to go ahead and take the switch loose and operate it directly. If it is the neutral or clutch safety, it will show up by still no function. I've seen more than one ignition switch fail, but the other switches can be the problem as well, just have to work your way through the system and see where the power stops. On the auto nuetral switches, also try out the N position to see if it makes a difference.
My truck had the same problem at one time, but I realized if you press on the clutch a lot harder, just as hard as you can bear down, it would start. After that, I just bypassed the clutch safety switch
I have had lots of problems with my clutch switch on my 93' when I was going thru the firewall cracking and clutch pedal cracking issues.
I eventually put a 1/4" thick aluminium shim between the switch body and the firewall. Solved all my problems. The switch just was not engaging early enough.
I think I may be looking at a clutch safety switch problem; can anyone tell me where the switch is located? I didn't see anything by the pedal, or on the clutch master. Thanks!
On my 93 the clutch safety switch is a 1" diameter plastic can about 2" long that is located on the master cylinder push rod inside under the dash.
It is a bit tricky to remove. Disconnect the electrical connector and there is a plastic lock you need to slide out and then slide the switch off the push rod.
Kind of difficult to describe in words. Just have a look under the dash were the clutch master cylinder push rod goes thru the firewall.
thanks, i'll take a look! i was looking for something that looked like a switch and didn't see anything, didn't really see any wires, but i'll look again...
mike
still can't see anything that looks like a switch or even has wires going to it near the clutch pedal.
called the ford parts counter and at least at this dealer, they can only look up the item by microfiche and then they just go to the location of the vehicle and start hunting around...hmmm, don't see anything by the clutch pedal...nothing by the tranny...oh, here's a stop switch near the slave cylinder for the clutch, maybe that's it. doesn't give me much confidence.
if anyone out there's got a part number for the switch that is closed when the clutch pedal is depressed, let me know, please!
