Smile Too much idling?

Quick question for you guys,I have seen many post about not letting your 6.0 idle for long periods of time except if you have high idle and I let my truck cool down 2-3 minutes before I shut it down every time, now I know thats not very long but will it make a mess of my egr valve later down the road or any thing else?

p.s I LOVE MY 04 6.0 GREATEST TRUCK EVER MADE!

unless you're coming off a long hard tow, you dont need to let it idle.

If you are going to idle for a certain reason then setup the Hi-Idle mod so that the engine will perform as if it were being driven.

I'm having a RealACPower system installed in my truck this weekend and the Hi-Idle mode will work in conjuntion with the output.

On some models you can wire the PTO idle wires through a switch to accomplish an on demand (switched) high idle. Nice if you have to idle for extended periods in your application. If you have the upfitter switches, this is an easy set up to do. I think instructions might be found in the tech folder. If not, I'm sure KW will direct you to a link for that.
Avoid extended idling, except for cooling the turbo down after a good workout. Shutting down an engine, where the turbo has been worked and heated up, can cause coking, so this is the exception where you DO want to idle for several minutes. Other than that, if I am driving more conservatively, I will only let mine cool down for about a minute for city type driving. In road construction, where I am stuck sitting for 15 minutes at the flagman, I shut that sucker off instead of excessive idling.

If your comming off the freeway just to refuel, leave it idle.
When your running freeway speeds or towing, let it idle for a few minutes before shut down.

Correct. You don't need to perform the idle mod just to run into Kiwk Shop. Too many people think that is necessary. You are not going to wet stack from idleing for minutes at a time and if you drive any type of freeway often, you will blow it out anyway.

Now if your idleing for extended long periods and your vehicle is a city driver, then you should probably consider it.

when reading my 06 manual. I got the impression that after 130 seconds of idle, my truck will automatically switch to HIGH IDLE mode, has anyone seen if this is true?
i have let mine warm up for several minutes but never noticed that it started to idle faster after 130 seconds.
maybe it's an option?
I normally let my truck idle when i am just stopping for a short time or in the winter, it idles a lot, at least my 97 did, and i'm sure my new 06 will also.

When I hook-up the trailer in the mornings I let the truck idle and it switches to high idle mode after a few minutes. I am guessing it will prevent wet stacking. As soon as I put my foot on the brake the idle comes back to normal. I also hooked up the high idle to the upfitter switch and it works wonders on warm up. Hope this helps.

the manual says it will auto high idle when it senses cold ambient temps.
so soon, i will find out on a colder morning this fall if it works. i still plan on doing the switch though.
