My ses light came on about 2 weeks ago, took the truck to autozone and they said there was something wrong with the plug that the scanner plugs into, they said it is not supplying any power to the scanner so they could not pull the code. Took it to advanced auto and they said the same thing. Is there another place to hook the scanner or do they not have the right scanner?
If they dont have the right scanner, does that mean I have to go to the dealer?
I also noticed that the truck no longer "coughs" out the air filter (napa mod) like it did when I first put it on.
Then on the way home tonight I had to smoke a jeep that tried to cut me off at a merge lane, when I looked out the rear view I really smoked him out, more smoke than I've ever noticed before. The smoke was enough for him to back off about 50 yards. While I was amused I am also concerned about the smoke.
Perhaps its related to the ses light. The truck runs good but I have noticed a little loping at idle.
Do a search on the net ( i just did ) for data link connector. You will be able to find which wire goes where and check for voltage. I would check the fuses. A blown fuse will cause this. Let me know if you cant find it and I might have the wiring diaghram.
Your data link shares a fuse with the power port or the cig lighter i believe check those and see if they work... Cant remember off hand which fuse it is though

i am going through the same problem (pulling codes) the auto parts stores basic code readers will not read PSD codes. you will need to take it to a dealer, use a ford psd enhanced code reader, or get a hold of a programmer that will read codes.
I did find a blown fuse, I misplaced my manual so I am not sure what the fuse goes to.
Seems to reason that that might be the problem. I will have to wait till tomorrow to take it back to auto zone and try again.
Maybe it had something to do with your intake. If it is blowing more coal then b4 then, maybe there is restriction somewhere in the intake causing less air to get through, thus causing more fuel to be unburned. Just a thought,
my 99 has the scanner port on the same fuse as the cigarette lighter....if lighter dont work then port dont work...and yes its true murrays who is now owned by autozone and autozone both can not scan our trucks

Under valve cover. It's actually the gasket with wires that control the glow plugs and the related injectors. The gaskets/wire harness are prone to burning and cracking. When that happen the injectors and/or glow plugs will not operate correctly.
Thank you all for your responses. I replaced the blown fuse, took it back to autozone, they were able to pull the code and said it was the glow plug on cylinder #7.
Now I just need to know which one is #7, its an 01 7.3 excursion.
