Maybe around 2010, and only then it will probably only move toward a mid-size truck style.

This has been up before...no it's not being cancelled, remember they just restyled it, would be kinda stupid to cancel it, especially with nothing to replace it.

So is 2010 the rumor? I need a new truck in 2010, so hopefully I can by the compact ranger 2009MY before the new release.

I don't know if it's a rumor or not. I'm expectong it though. Probably won't happen for a couple of years, but when it does happen, Ford will most likely be looking at the mid size category. Cheby and Doj are allready in that market leaving ford alone in the small pick up truck market.
I'm expecting something with a small V8 and a large V6 for engine options. Maybe on the explorer platform, like back in the early 90s when the two were like siblings from the same beast.
Again this is only what I'm thinking and not what is going to happen. It would be even cooler if they introduced a new mid size and kept the small size.... Doubt it.

My inside source tells me that 09 will be the redesign, thier still debating on if thier going to change the name or not. The ranger name has become an icon in small p/u's. Ford is looking to increase interior room, but trying to keep the over all size compact. A true crewcab will be an option, and some rumors say a 4 cylinder diesel. Some of the drawings show it will look like a mini f-150, but if I knew the final details, they would have to kill me. I get my information from Rodney Harrison, an independant ford dealer where I buy all my vehicles, he goes up to Detroit all the time to meetings, shows, and breifings, time will tell.

I like the fact that the ranger is campact cause I never have liked the dakotas or those junks GM calles Colorados
If they do make a move torward the midsized market I hope they don't make it as big as the other 2.
My uncle has a dakota and there isent much difference between his truck and my dads f-150.

I would like a 4 cylinder diesel option, I am still keeping an eye out for the turbo 4 cylinder cummins diesel used in teh Case 580 backhoes to use in a conversion but by the time the backhoe is trashed theengine usually is too.

Oooo I'm quite a fan of the Colorado and the Dakota (despite my distaste for everything Dodge), crew cabs are a popular option and they have it. The Ranger just flat out doesn't.

When I was a kid, the only option was a regularcab, we loved riding in the bed. A p/u is not a car, but everybody wants it to be one. The more cab you have , the less bed you get, kinda defeats the purpose of having a p/u truck. People want one vehicle that does everything, as in a truck, and they'll still have 2 other cars setting in thier driveway.

According to www.wikipedia.org it says the Ranger will be discontinued after 2008 due to the Twin Cities' plant closing. Who knows if it's really true... but given GM and Dodge don't have compacts anymore, I'd say it is.

yeah, don't trust wikipedia, its free posting site, if you want you can edit that article. it could be some one who has heard a bunch of rumours with similiar conclusions and they decided to spread the WORD with all those not forunate enopugh to be privy to the highly confidential information they are..........of course........it could also be a higher up Ford man who is trying to wreck teh company and get fired...............but a new F100 would be nice, if tehy had a retro style, i would try my hardest to buy a brand new one just for braggin rights......

I really hope they keep the Ranger as a compact pickup.
It would be a huge mistake on thier part if it was discontinued.

My feelings are if you want more interior room, get a Sport Trac.

I bought my extended cab Ranger for two reasons:
1) extended cab is dedicated to stereo equipment
2) with the camper top, its too small for people to ask you to help them move beds, sofas, etc.

If I do get asked to carry something, its usually just boxes that need to be kept out of the rain while moving, so no heavy lifting.

My old 4.0 Ranger was my favorite vehicle I have ever owned. That thing was real quick and still got great mileage on the highway. My buddies 95 Dakota when they were compacts with the 3.9 was a close race, but being a regular cab, he had more top end speed.

I hope they come out with a compact ranger with 4X4 and a small little turbo diesel. With an 8 foot bed. (regular cab ofcourse) Now that would be a truck I'd buy. Im sick of crew cab trucks if ya want a car buy one. If you want a truck get a truck (with a regular cab) Extended cabs are nice sometimes no complaint there but a crew cab with 4 doors, come on go get a car and park the truck.
