Whinig sound at high RPM
I have a '94 F350 7.3 IDI. The ac compressor makes a whining noise at high rpm right before it shifts. It seems to cool fine. Any ideas as to what the problem and fix might be? Thanks!

Are you sure that it is the AC compressor and not the alternator or power steering pump? I had the same problem with an alternator and always thought it was the AC until checking into the real source of the whine.

This is a tough one if you can't get it to whine while you are under the hood. Have you done any AC work on the truck that could be the cause of the whine? I wouldn't think having the AC on would cause whining of any other component driven by the belt since even though there is more load on the belt. If it is the AC compressor you should be able to get it to whine while under the hood.
