Hi all, I have a question. My truck is an 86 f-150 302 efi auto. It eats alternators about one every 6 months or so I was told it was the plug and with theelectronic gadgets I have in there I should upgrade to a 3 g unit which I have one now I want to install it but the plug for the regulator is different and I need to find an adapter plus the directions I found on-line say to install 4 gauge wire and a 200 amp fuse the wire is no problem, but where do I get a 200 amp fuse I found a 100 amp at Pep boys but no 200... Any help???
Thanks John
1. The 3G does not have an external regulator.
2. You (we) need to know what Amp 3G alternator you have.
3. Most of the time you do not use fuses with a 3G, you use Fuse links.
The size of the fuse links and wire size depends on the output of the alternator in amps.
The 200A Mega Fuse is used with a 200 Amp Alternator and I do not think it is a 3G.
I belive the on eI got is a 3 g but not totaly sure it has one wire and I know it was for a f-750 my buddy used to haul trailers back from Ohio to NJ and he kept a spare in his truck he dosent have the truck anymore so he gave it to me. So I asume it should work..
Thanks John
Thanks for the help so far Sub.. It looks like the 3 g in the pictures in the link but the regulator plug is different onmy alternator. The ones in the pics look like the plug on my truck but the one on the new alternator its more rounded
Go to that site again and see if you can verify you have the correct lettered terminals on your alternator. Hopefully the terminals are marked somehow( I have never messed with a 3G) and if you can figure out the terminals, then you should be able to use the diagram on the same site and hook it up.
