need help guys. 1993 f250 7.3 idi . My glow plug relay is no longer clicking
when I turn the key on. is this thing really $130. any ideas. sometimes I had to turn the key on more than once to kit it to start clicking, but now it does nothing. help please.
I agree with Dave - I had 2 bad glow plugs which affected the entire GP system. With mine the GP light ("wait to start") would only stay on for a very short time ( a couple seconds) even in cold weather (Alaska).....very tough to start - lots of cranking = bad for starter.....
I thought it was the GP controller - so I bought at Ford ($130) - it didn't change a thing......I tested the GPs and found 2 that were bad (the hardest ones to reach)....couldn't return the controller because it's and electronic part - no returns :-(
I have since learned it only takes 1 bad GP to cause the entire system to not function properly - because the circuit is not complete.
Anyway - I replaced all GPs and now have a new GP contoller - that was a few years ago and it still starts great.
after reading some posts about corrosion on the terminals. I went out and took the relay cover off and wiggled each wire. they definitely are corroded.
It started working every time i turned the key, after wiggling the wires. turned key about 20 times. and relay clicked every time. I will clean tonight,
I would think if I had a bad glow plug, it would not have started working. this also started after it rained hard on my truck, so I may have got some water in there which may have helped. first rain on my truck in about 6 months. thanks guys

To help your new one last longer check the hood seal across in front of the windshield, thats right over the controller. Those seals are also known for letting water sit on the air filter cover and entering the engine which will cause hydro-lock.
