chip or no chip

I bought my truck a little over a year ago and was wondering if there is any way to know if a chip was installed in truck before I bought it. A friend of mine has an OBS diesel and he drove mine the other day and says it has a lot more power than his. I am unable to locate the person I bought the truck from to ask.

pull off the e brake assembly. three 13mm nuts. and look. is it possible your truck is a cali truck? although non chipped cali trucks are dogs too.
