My first post
thanks in advance

ps, anybody write in Spanish?
your ratio is on the door jamb sticker.
look where it says axle code.
it will say one of the following
35 4.10
39 3.55
c5 4.10ls
c9 3.55ls (limited slip)
you write very well from what i can tell. had you of not said anything i wouldnt of been able to tell.
welcome to fte. glad to have ya
1997 gave you the info you needed so you should be good to go.
also don't worry about the english (i've lived in michigan for all my life and can't do english!) I also couldn't tell
We´ll be in touch, thanks, again.
Let me know if you want to know anything about my Country, OK?
When I go driving my truck, most people turns theirs eyes to look at me, because is a different pick-up and the classic diesel noise. Here are F250 and gasoline, but they are in reallity F150 because its capacity and F350 gasoline and they really are F350 and most are duallis.
I bougth mine this year, and in few months I love it, you can feel that it´s very tough, you can feel the power of the PSD. I am preparing it to tow my trailer, which I use to tow it with a Dodge 350 dually, 360 engine, 1982, but it suffered in the hills, and I really am very anxious to test my F250 PSD towing my trailer, no too big, (about 21f and 5500 to 6000 pounds).
The diesels in reallity are begning to work in Mexico, I don´t know why till now?, but they allready start, for instance the wolkwagen, the pick up dodge, etc. etc. somebody told me that also de jeep Liberty.
my best regards.
What is the difference between 3.55 vs. 4.10 in: MPG, speed and towing?
thanks

That about uses up my spanish so I wil continue in english.
3.55 is good for fuel economy and highway cruising.
4.10 is better for towing.
Your trailer, 6000 lbs, should not be any trouble for the 3.55. I tow an 11,000 lb trailer with my 96 PSD (also a 3.55) and it doesnt cause me problems unless I am climbing a very long steep hill then I just downshift.

Buen Venidos Roentgeep. Yo vivo en South Tejas; if you may me put it in the correct way (if it doesn´t bother to you ) it should be:
Bien venido Röentgeep. Yo vivo en el sur de Texas.
I live in central Mexico (EL BAJIO), in Guanajuato State in a town named Celaya. Have you ever been there?.

ps: is your truck automatic (E40D) or standard?
I have spent many days in Mexico mostly on the west side, Baja California and Sonora.
More years ago than I care to think about I used to spend most of my free time Scuba diving in the Sea of Cortez. Some places I remember are Puerto Penasco, Hermasillo, Guaymas, San Felipe, Santa Rosalia, and La Paz
My truck is an automatic. When I encounter a lot of hills I turn overdrive off.
what is your opinion about: Hypermax exhaust turbo back, because I want to put any exhaust brake to my truck. and thanks for the recomendation to turn overdrive off when encounter a lot of hills.
Thanks for the input.
Sincerely.
Jose A.
I don't know how much you know about diesels so I will give you a couple of tips:
First if you want a diesel to operate at peak efficiency it must be able to breath. By that I mean they need a relatively unrestricted flow of air in and exhaust out.
Second as the engine works harder it burns more fuel, thatl causes the temperature inside the cylinder to rise. Thats acceptable to a certain point but can get out of hand if you push it to far.
Stock exhaust and air intake on the PSD do not allow the engine to breath properly and that makes it work harder causing internal temperature to rise. Both intake and exhaust should be replaced.
Hypermax exhaust is great, a little pricey but great.
You may be able to have one fabricated locally just be sure the shop can bend the pipe on a mandrel.
In the area where you live you don't have to worry about early rust out of the exhaust system so stainless steel not really needed.
The most critical part to replace is the downpipe, when you see your stock pipe you'll know why. The biggest down pipe that will fit into the available space without modifying the firewall is 3 inch then transition to 4 inch exhaust as quickly as you can.
One last point leave the Catalytic converter out of the new exhaust system and consider leaving the muffler out, It really is not that loud.
Replacing the airt intake system is easy and relatively inexpensive. Look up the Kwik filter on this forum it costs about $50 to make and is much healthier for your truck.
The combination of these two modifications will give you peppier performance and reduce internal temperature without endangering the engine. By the way the only way we can measure internal temperature is to measure the temperature of exhaust gas (EGT).

I already ordered an air filter-like Tymar, Kwik, 6636 etc, which is the FLEETGUARD AH1141, and I´m going to get the 45 degree elbow 4" ID/OD. But I have to mention that one of my frieds, told me, that with de TURBO, you dont need a better air filter, because the only thing is that you are going to listen the turbo, I have now de K/N filter and he told me that is enough, very different if it is a IDI. ??? anyway, after read the forums, I decided to change to the open filter. What do you think?
For the exhaust I´m going to follow your advice and have one fabricated locally on a mandrel. Do I have to make modifications on the firewall to accept the 4" down pipe? I also have read that the Banks have very good products but expensive.
Also I want to by a pyrometer to measure the EGT.
So I know that the combination of these modifications will give better performance and reduce internal temperature without endangering the engine.
Here in Mexico there are not to many PSD parts, so I have to import them, which ones, do you think I have to have in stock, for instance: PCM, other sensors, glow plugs etc etc? any advice will be appreciated.
thanks again.
thanks again.

I'm no expert either, but as I read these forums one thing I would suggest stocking would be the valvecover gaskets/wiring harness for the glow plugs. Seems like more than a few people have had this problem. I just read somthing about a sensor sombody suggested to buy two of, and carry the 2nd one in the glove box. I cannot remember which one tho... so you might consider a few of them if somebody will be so kind to chime in with it's name.
How long does it take to get parts from the US when u order them?
thnx Frank
K & N drop in filters are known to leak, that can be fatal to the turbo and shorten engine life.
Go with the Tymar style!
Parts to keep on hand:
Cam Position Sensor
Fuel Pump
Water Pump
It is probably time to change Glowplugs and while you are at it replace the wiring harness and valve cover gaskets. Also check ball joints carefully.
