Guys, I am in the process of installing a hitch in my truck. I already got the prodigy and pretty much have everything I need. Here is my dilemma. I do not want to cut a hole in the box. My dads truck has the ball mounted on a plate that is bolted down into the frame. This is the setup I am after. I see the 2 bolts in my bed, but it looks like there is a spot for 2 more. Are the holes already in the frame? If someone can direct me to some diagrams that would be great!
Not much help for your questions but I installed the B&W Turnover ball in my truck. It does require a 4" hole but the hitch fits so well you don't mind and when not using it the no ball in the bed is very nice. Took about 4 hours to install by myself. No drilling in the frame. Could do the next one in half that.
i considered the b&w, but i have had most of the stuff given to me. Even with the bw, you need a hole in the bed. This is what I want to avoid- hence the plate idea. I was just hoping someone here had done the same thing.
i only use my super duty to haul the trailer so i used the reese hitch system. i can hook up to 5th wheel or goose neck trailers. i do have the rails in the bed to contend with if i haul anything there, but they are only 1 inch tall. I used some of the bolts to hold the bed in place and some of the holes had to be made to mount the drop down angle plates to the frame.
I also have a B&W & it is awesome. I understand you not wanting to drill a hole but I have a rubber mat in mine that I just roll up when pulling the trailer. If the safety chain hooks were installed in the "Valleys" instead of on top of the ribs, you wouldn't even be able to tell it was there. Not likely to reduce your trade-in value - after all these trucks weren't just made to look pretty.
I too have the B&W. I have the saftey hooks in the valleys and with the ball turned upside down I have full availability of my bed space.
I understand you don't want the 4" hole in the bed, but a plate would require drilling as well.
I have the same setup as Mark250 with the BW turnover and rubber mat. I am very happy with it. I don't know about the holes you are asking about for the plate.
