What fluid for tranny

I have a 2003 7.3 with a 4r100 tranny. I just recieved my valve body from brian's truck shop today and would like to replace the tranny fluid when i do the valve body since it has 63000 miles on it. Wondering what kind of fluid, was thinking synthetic, and where to get it. The local auto stores around here only carry their cheap brand. Also where do i get a filter for it. Thanks

Just a thought, go ahaid a buy several gallons (2 or 3) of the cheep stuff to flush your trans with before you finish putting the trans in. By leaving the return line off the transmission. you will be able to flush you cooler with the trans pump but not return it to the trans. you must keep a steady flow going in however to maintain fluid leval inside the trans pan. You may need to buy enuff to compleatley fill the trans and cooler, and conveter. ( so maybe 5 or 6 gallons) Just a thought. as far as where to get some "good stuff" I dont know, I would deffenatly think three or four times before using Synthetic. I have had bad experance with synthetics, but it is your call.

Here's how to change the fluid. Your 2003 doesn't have a drain plug in the torque converter, so this is the only way to get all the fluid out.
