the trip odometer (I think??) uses different codes--
once activated, , each push of the button brings up (about 10) different readings (each with its own code)???!!
for example: one reads the engine speed (tach) and another seems to be reading the oil temperature??--there are about 10 others but I dont know what they are measuring nor how to interpret them!
(1) shut off engine
(2) depress trip odometer **** and hold
(3) start engine-continue to hold trip odo **** for about 8 seconds
...then---your trip odometer will function as a code reader!--
but----
i dont know the codes nor how to intrepret...I see one is a tachometer and others show various functions?
need to obtain the legend to use the various codes!!!!!

Good to know! Thanks for getting back with me. I'll try to google the legend. If I find something, I'll be sure and get it posted here.
A special note of caution and I'm going to emphasize it intentionally: THE HEC DEALER TEST MODE IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR A SCAN TOOL. The HEC can only display codes for data that is fed through it. It cannot read most PCM fault codes, or any codes from the ABS or SRS systems. Do not use this test as a sole diagnostic for troubleshooting faults unless you know what you're doing, especially relating to the oil pressure switch.
Thanks for that, ProjectSHO89!! I think the coolest thing is the tach display. Other than that, looks like you still need a code reader to pull diagnostic codes since the HEC mode seems to only pertain to the systems that send info to the instrument cluster.
