Question Wiring

I have a short in one of my circuits...the one that controls the tail lights, pointer lights, turn signals, and dash lights. I've had some difficulty in tracking it down and it blows fuses instantly when anything is turned on. I'm going to start replacing components and rewiring that circuit. I've replaced the switch, already. Anyway, what gauge wire is best for this application?
Thanks!

dimmer switch is also connected to that circuit, however a more durable and easier way would be to check for a ground in that circuit that the fuse is connected and is blowing, if a fused circuit is blowing, its going to ground, so search it out and useing the true an tried method, knowing what its connected to, then go from there. Why go and replace different things when the trouble is in the wiring?

Those sound like all different circuits to me.

Did they combine Running lights/TS and Cluster lighting on the same fuse in the 80's ?

I'll check my book.

You can start by disconnecting Harnesses one at a time...inserting new fuse and turn the circuit on to see if it blows.
Once the correct harness is determined... we can find where in the circuit it is shorting
