AC Changeover problem

I am trying to put the new style freon (134) into my truck. None of the adaptors seem to work. What side do I put the freon in, The place near the evaporator, correct? One of the adaptors will screw on, but not the one that accepts the hose to the can.. What am I missing? THX!

You're missing the pro, his shop, his tools and his experience. Leave the A/C stuff to those who have the tools and know what they're doing. Are you converting because your R12 leaked out? Did you fix the leak? They only get worse... If there was a leak, did you replace the drier? Clean out the filters? Did they have metal from the compressor in them?

I had my leak fixed and the system switched to R134a for under $400. Well worth it in my opinion, as I spent at least that on my old truck trying to switch it over myself, only to have it all leak out within a few days.

The adaptor will screw on the fitting on the low (suction) side and accept the snap-on connection on the hose to your freon can. When I bought my '93 the compressor was bad. I changed the accumulator, orifice tube, and O-rings. I then purged the system with a vacuum pump and charged it with R134A. Total cost including the compressor was around $300 as I recall. That has been two summers ago and the system still works fine.

make sure you have the right size fitting they could either be 3/16 or 1/4, 3/16 is the more common size
