want to put a small v-8 in a '61 econoline. want to switch to auto trans. is there a painless swap?

almost painless anyway, i did a 65 as they are easier. you will need a trans and engine crossmember from a 65/6 with a 240 and an auto. the trans mount is a hair different and you will have to make it work. after you get the trans hung bolt a block to it and then take the 66 crossmember and remove the engine stands. bolt the crossmember to your chassis and fabricate mounts for the extra holes (you need all of the support you can get). last, take the original right mount and use it on the left and take the left and weld it on the right. i used standard 289 rubber mounts for a 70 pickup and it was pretty straight forward. i also used the 9" rear and the driveshaft from the van with the 240. it was an extreme ride as it was an original hipo K motor with roller rockers a cam lots of aluminum and more. damn i miss it! hawkrod
