things i need to fix, please help

here a list of things i like to fix on my 1958, and parts i need.

1. my Sterring wheel seems loose, it has to much free movement before my car will turn. I think i need ot tighting the sterring box, but i do not know how.

2. I need a fuel line, i have a rubber tube on there now.

3. I need some window wipers and motors and info on how it fix them.

4.i need both door windows

5. my turn signal lights on the dash are real hard to see, and my lever does not click so it hard to tell if my turn lights are on or off.

any help will be nice, thank you

For the steering, check all your joints underneath for play/looseness. A combo of all of them will certainly make you think it's the steering wheel. For the turn signals, I'd clean up your grounds. My 2 cents.

I FIRST thing you need to do is Buy a Shop Manual and a Illistrated parts manual.
The next thing to do is either search or scroll back thru this forum for answers to your questions.
Also check the tech articles section (see top of page under articles).
Next take pictures of anything y before you take it apart.

I see you are on an Air Force base, do they still have a garage on base with a lift and tools you can rent? Also talk to a few guys locally who can point at parts and educate you on what they are. We can give advice here and show you some pictures but hands on is worth allot more.

What Christopher2 said. Ft. Campbell had one back in my day, and it came really helpful.

Use the search function on this forum (over on the top right where it says "search this forum"). This is a terrific source of knowledge and the people are helpful, knowledgable, and 99.9% of the time, very friendly. People have been restoring these old trucks for decades and have had basicly the same questions over and over again. Not that I'm an old pro at this, but I've done a ton of research and/or reading. Don't take my word for it, search "drunk monkey" (yes, really, drunk monkey) and that'll give you an idea of how common your steering issues are. To me, it's sort of comforting knowing that ANYTHING I want or need to do to my truck is "been there, done that" material for a lot of the guys on this forum. The cool thing is that they don't mind sharing! To someone just starting out (again, I'm no old pro), I highly recommend this:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/article/...e_Builder.html

and this:

Good luck and have fun!

Wink

That is great, now who here lives near the base? Can you still get people on base for the day? Also look for local car clubs they are full of people that like to brag, show off and share there wisdom. Kind of like the members here.

You can buy a 1958 service manual on Ebay and it helps with just about everything. I would check out the entire steering assembly for wear. Tie rod ends, drag link, etc.

re: drunken monkey. Might start here https://www.ford-trucks.com/article/...60_Trucks.html
Most any good auto glass shop can cut replacement flat glass for your side windows.
Auto part stores sell steel fuel line and the bending tool, but the base auto center may have the tool as well. A foot or so of rubber hose between the steel line and the fuel pump is still a good idea.
Might check out ebay or local salvage yards for the wiper parts and a turn signal switch.

Also Zigma, a lot of bases offer welding classes through MWR or the CAC. They're usually free to active duty. I'm probably going to get in on the next one here at Shaw. That's just something to think about when it comes time to do metal work. I'd rather learn something and do it myself than pay someone else to do it.

Since most of the people that have replied to this thread seem to be USAF or other Service, lets find out who and when

USAF 1967 - 1989, Retired MSgt, as if you can't tell.
