Exhaust Brake
Does anybody have one on their IDI? I am looking at adding one due to all the towing I do through the hills.

i dont believe that an idi's valve train will stand up to the back pressure needed to gain any advantage in braking.

Hypermax has an exausht brake for hte idi. I have been told that even on the psd engines that an exauhst brake is bad for them.

i think i read somewere that the back pressure caused by an exhaust brake can cause the valves to float and get smashed

its jsut hard on the valve train. definatly not good for it brakes are a hell of alot cheaper then an engine.

If you need extra braking power for towing, best get an electric brake set up for your trailer.

A properly designed exhaust brake will not damage the engine. They will vent a certain amount through the exhaust to control the backpressure.
