Problem with ignition switch mounting
I just bought a 78 F-250 4x4. The ignition switch flops around in the mounting hole. If I tighten the bezel all the way, it is still loose. I have looked at pictures of replacement ignition switches and they match what I have. My bezel also matches pics of replacements. Is there supposed to be a mount on the back of the dash for the switch to press into? I see there are keyways in the actual switch, is there are bracket that they go in to? Thanks

Nope, only the screw-on bezel.

Is there a jam nut that tightens up from behind the dash?

There is really not clear illustration of the bezel for the switch.
It has always been push the switch thru the hole and screw the bezel onto it until the switch & bezel is tight.
Have you put the tumbler in yet ?

IIRC, That tumbler should be removed until the bezel has been screwed onto the switch ...holding it to the dash.
There should also be a small Notch in the dash (in the switch hole)
What is the part number of that switch to verify if it is the correct one?
Motorcraft number SW-814 is what you need.

That's the problem. (with the 3 changed to a letter)
The switches changed in 1978 after Vin# CAxxxx
That switch you have is an 78 switch after CAxxxx
You need the service switch number above in post # 8 or a C9AB- Number.

Looks like SW-814 is just the cylinder. Do you have the number for the whole switch?
