That's just the Tumber & Key.
You need the different switch as it is listed on rockauto.
EDIT: Okay, I just looked it up on Motorcraft and it shows that number as the Key & Tumbler also.
On here it shows it as a switch.

You need this one.
DELCO Part # F1469

My dash doesn't have the notch for the keyway, though...

I would have no problem making it, I just don't understand how this "correct" switch would require modification to make work.

I don't know why there isnt a notch
I *believe but not positive* my 78 built before CA0001 does have a notch and it is an un-touched original.
I can't just go out and remove mine to find out.
It just made sense to have a notch to keep it from turning while the bezel was tightened.
I do however have a Brand New complete switch w/tumber & keys in a box in my garage if I could find it.

Now from looking at the pic, if the keyway goes into the notch in the dash, wouldn't the entire threaded portion protrude from the dash? Shouldn't the end of the switch be flush with the dash?

1) Nope !
2) Yep !
I just read the instructions for the 76-79 truck in the chiltons book and it describes something totally different.
as in Bayonet type mount to the dash with a 1/8th turn.
A spring slides over the threaded area with tabs on the housing to lock it into place and then for the bezel to screw on to it on the dash.

The problem is that behind the ignition switch there is a bracket. It has a hole for the switch to slide through with a little notch in the bottum for the ignition switch. the notch is in the bracket not the dash. look directly under and to the left a little bit of the hole in the dash for your ignition switch there should be a screw hole. the brackt screws in there and sits in the back of the dash. your ignition switch goes through the bracket, dash, then the outer screw sleeve.

Thanks Hick & Welcome to the site.
It has been ages since I have been around a truck with the switch out.
That's exactly the info we were looking for and the fact that you registered to FTE to "point that out" is great
