getting started
hey guys, i currently have a 2006 f-250, 4x4 6.0 and i wanted to earn some extra cash. ive currently been doing dump runs for locals in my town who dont have trucks. just adding $50 bucks or so onto the dump bill for my time and labor. also a couple of times i have hauled pallets of tape for my uncles company down to bakersfield and such (im in the bay area). and that was also good money. recently i met a man who basically does this for a living, people/companies pay him to run loads down to los angles, up to oregon, wherever. and he is making some good money. sometimes he hauls and sometimes he uses his 5th wheel. so my question is... how does one get started in this field? i know that if i did this full time i would have to get a buisness licence and such, but im looking for a few cash jobs a week like the guy i met earlier. so do u guys think its just luck? knowing the right people? just thought id throw it out there. any info is appriciated.

sltrrco, thanks for the info. but what do u mean talk to local freight companies? they wont want to to give up business? do they contract u out? basically how does it work? thanks again
