Headlight Splash Panel

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-Jul-02 AT 08:43 AM (EST)]The headlight splash panel (sheet metal piece behind the grille to which the radiator is mounted)on my '64 F-100 is severely rusted. All but the rare exception of every other truck of the vintage that I have seen seems to have the same problem. At least the ones in junkyards do. I would like to replace mine inexpensively. Any leads?
A '65-'66 headlight splash panel will not work in a '61-'64, right?

I am in Philadelphia, PA.

Hmmm... I am pretty sure I know what you are talking about. Its a Pain In The BUTT! I am pretty sure you are talking about the piece that goes across the whole front of the truck. (underneath the headlights/grille). I couldn't find it anywhere. No junkyards or nothing. So... I took wax and moulded it out and made a fiberglass one . Works awesome. That's what I would do if you have the resources. Just my $.02

Wolverine,

You got it. That's the piece. It is a pain in the tailgate. Thanks for the suggestion, but I really prefer steel. I wonder why none of the old truck parts suppliers do this piece. It seems to be one that everybody needs. Every one that I've seen is rusted badly.

Oh well, I'll keep looking. Thanks.

Well man, other than fiberglass I'm not sure what you could do. If you are really crafty I guess you could make one out of steel, and sell 'em! Guaranteed buyer on that one. I too am suprised none of the reproduction places makes them. And I doubt you'll find one at a junkyard but definitely keep looking!

I think that I saw this same thing on this forum in the past. I believe that there was a man over on the West Coast somewhere that fixes these for all of the ford guys.

I thought that the price was $500.00 + to fix a core support up.

I can't remember perfectly- so the bes thing to do would search this forum with some specific key words to see if you can find the post I am referring to.

Sorry I was not much more help. (My core support is gone too )
