on my 86 b2 i am having a problem with my seat.it will not fully lock into position. when i take off the seat will just fall back and then i have to bring it up and not put alot of pressure on it. has anyone ever had this problem? other than that the seats are in great chape no rips or tears, the entire interior is in perfect shape.can the gear mechanism be replaced or does the whole seat need to be changed? thanks for any help!
Which part of the seat are you talking about? Is it the seat backrest that "falls back" or does the whole seat slide back on the track? In either case you could check out the latching parts to see if something is blocking the latch from going deep enough to latch completely or if it is wear on the teeth or latch lever. Sometimes lint builds up, or a stray piece of paper or some seat material gets in the latches or teeth and won't let them go deep enough to lock. If it's wear on the teeth or segments of the seat track are broken, for the sliding adjustment, you can change just the seat track on the bottom of the seat. It unbolts from the seat frame and you could get another seat track from a wrecking yard from a newer b2 or one with less miles. Just check out the latch function before you buy it to be sure it works better than yours. Sometimes though the wrecking yard may want you to buy the whole seat, cause they won't sell just the track off a good seat.
it is the part that reclines back.i think the teeth are just worn out..i will have to take it apart to see if i can get individual parts for it..i doubt i will be able to find another seat in as good condition as mine and same color
