Have a 2003 Lariat with leather seats. driver side seat is used more and looks it. forwards area on edge looks like stress stretch marks or cracks (but soft). Have put leather stuff on seat but marks are growing. looks like stretch marks on skin!
is this normal near front of seat, or problem starting?
I have never had leather before and dont know how to properly care for and diagnose problems!
There are all sorts of products available but the old standard for leather that I have found best is neetsfoot oil avalable in an oil or paste form. I use the oil. It's been around for a hundred years. All products work well in the short term. After 5 or 10 years is where the difference lies. Put a lot on and let it soak in overnite. Reapply as often as you can. I live in south Florida and the sun and heat are brutal for leather.
Neats foot oil will make your seat oily. Use lexol leather conditioner (I am/was a 3rd generation shoe/boot repairman and know a thing or two about leather). Lexol will not leave your seats oily or soften the leather too much (important on a seating surface). I have never tried this, but on the surface it seems to make sense, use hand cream. Leather is a skin just like any other, only it's been tanned and so forth, but you should have no problems using lexol we use it all the time. Be sure to properly clean the seats first.

I use Eagle Ottawa Tanners Preserve. One bottle goes a long way, I've had the same 7.5 oz bottle for a year, only half empty. My truck seats are light gray, and it doesn't take long for the drivers seat to start looking different. This stuff will clean it and keep it soft. The marks are not unusual, you just have to get used to them. Every vehicle I've had with leather has done this.
