As i walked into the garage tonight I heard the buzzer in the dash in my pickup doing what it does best...Buzzing. The key was off, and it must have been buzzing all day because the battery is dead. This happened a few months ago too. What is causing this?
I think its a seatbelt buzzer. Instead of just simply unplugging it, I would rather find out why it stays on after the key is off, like wintremute says. Thinking about it, my first guess would be something in the selenoid. Maybe I'm wrong.
If you decide to remove or disconnect it I'd love to have one. I'm trying to modify the seat belt buzzer into a headlight warning buzzer, but my buzzer is dead. If I can get it done I'll post an article on FTE.
In other words, anyone got a free seat belt buzzer?
1980 to 1983 pickups, broncos have a seperate headlamp on warning buzzer. It's white.
A wire (Red) from the driver door switch, and the (brown) wire from the parking lamps, goes to the buzzer. Black wire for ground.
I do not believe the Green Seatbelt buzzer would work for this, because the switch for the warning light is intergrated into it, and the buzzer only stays on as long as the light does. What I'm trying to say, is the buzzer is timed. It supposed to switch off after 4 seconds, etc...

As i just stated earlier, the Green buzzer itself has the switch in it.
Green/Blue wire coming from the fuse panel, going to the buzzer/switch hot in run.
Pink Wire coming from the buzzer/switch, goes to the Fasten belts lamp.
Brown/Blue wire coming from the buzzer/switch, goes to the seatbelt buckle switch.
=========
What happens, when you turn on your truck, the green/blue wire becomes energized. sending 12v power to the green buzzer/switch. This makes the fasten belt light come on. After about 4 to 8 seconds a little switch heats up from the 12v power it recieves and "breaks the connection" making the light go off.
If the Brown/blue wire is grounded, (IE Seatbelt buckle switch) the buzzer also sounds for 4 to 8 seconds, then the internal switch heats up and the buzzer shuts off.
When you shut the truck off. The power in the green/blue wire is shut off. The switch cools, and in about a minute or two, it will sound again, next time.
===========
Two things must be happening if this buzzer is the Fasten Belt warning buzzer/switch. The green/blue wire must be energized with the truck off. and two the switch inside the green buzzer itself must be stuck full on all the time. That would also mean your fasten belt light should be full on too. (Is the Fasten belt light burned out by any chance?)
I don't think that scenerio is very likely. But I've seen stranger things happen.
I would look for something that was added on by a previous owner while troubleshooting it to be honest.
I'm pretty sure that the seatbelt buzzer on my truck is on a fuse. It's never worked since I got the truck. Thinkin that the PO removed it and that's fine with me.
Just as I suspected. After recharging and reconnecting the battery, the buzzer was still stuck on. I tapped the selenoid with a screwdriver and it stopped. So, to my conclusion, it must be a bad selenoid. Am I wrong?
What exactly are you calling the solenoid, may I ask?
According to my Ford Wiring Diagrams,
Wiring at the Seat Belt Warning Indicator Switch: (Color Green).
1: Circut #584: Green/Blue wire: 12V hot in run, from fuse box.
2: Circut #670: Pink Wire: Goes to seat belts warning indicator lamp. In cluster.
3: Circut #560: Brown/Blue wire: Goes to seat belt retractor switch.
4: Circut #57: Black wire: Goes to ground.

There is no solenoid.
Can you explain what color wires are coming out of this "Solenoid", and what color "Buzzer" do you have? Can you get the part numbers off of them too please?
