distributor cap replacement

How often should you replace the distributor cap on an 89 BII? I have been doing it every 25K. When have you guys been replacing it?

I've had my Ranger since 2001 and I've only changed it one time, just a little bit after I got it. So I'd say every 25,000 is probably not a bad idea. I'd just do it with all the other parts of a regular tuneup whenever the gas mileage starts to suffer.

I do mine annually with the tuneup, with the rotor, wires, plugs and fuel filter

I like the annual idea, but it will last longer if need be. The main thing is to have it as part of some sort of schedule, or else it can get neglected until it fails, potentially leaving you stranded. I try to do mine every 2-3 years along with my thermostat, although come to think of it I believe the thermostat is supposed to be done annually as well... In any case, 25,000 is probably just fine!

The usual "recommended" interval I believe is every 30k miles. Anything less than that is more than fine, if that's what you prefer to do. Even once a year regardless of mileage is a good idea -- especially if you have a lot of idling.
