is this a good deal?
my 302 is about to die on me and the other day i found a stock 79 460 (no trans) for sell for $150. it has everthing except a carb and the distributer , but it also needs a rebuild. is this a good deal??

Simple way to find out, call a junkyard in your area and ask what the core charge on a 460 would be and don't pay more than that for one needing rebuild, mainly because you can usually buy a core engine for whatever the core charge is.

When changing the size of an engine I always try to get a complete engine and transmission even if it needs rebuild. Why, because trying to find all the bits and pieces you will need to complete the changeover job is a royal PITA! 500-800 bucks for a running power train that will go in your truck is about a fair price. Get a running engine and transmission, install it and improve from there. Honestly the easiest would to replace what you have with a NAPA rebuilt long block and just run the heck out of it.
