I have a 79 bronco with a 351 mod. in it now and im going to pull it and i have two other good engines a 360 and a 460 will either one fit the same bell housing and everything else?
Yes they both use the bigblock bellhousing and both will requier new mounts.
I would opt for the 460 as rebuilding the 360 will cost just as much but the 460 will put more power to the ground
I always thought the Fe engines had the bigblock bellhousing.
I agree on building a 400 all you need is the crank and rods.
Or build a 600hp+ bored and stroked 460 I would talk to monsterbaby on that one.
thank you for your ideas i have the 360 and the 460 both in older F-250 trucks and both do run so im thinking the since the 460 will fit the bell housing i may go with that. any other idies?
If you are going to build the 460 up for big HP, while you have the engine out, have the trans rebuilt and beefed up to handle the power. It will save you time and money down the road, trust me I know. It's easier to pull the trans and engine together, just drop the trans case first. I had to raise my fan shroud becasue the 460 sat higher, about 1 1/2 inches, than the 351M. I also had to grind a small area on the right (passengers) frame to clear the exhaust (it would hit under hard torque). Everything else was pretty straight forward.
