So my truck is at the stealership and they are wanting $615 to install tierod ends. I can only assume that they are doing the inner and outer at that price. Am I getting totally ripped off? I heard someone quoting $700 for ball joints but that should require a lot more work if I'm not mistaken. What do you guys think?
Lets see now,, tie rods,, about $50 each so $100.. Alignment which you must do,, $75 so now we are at $175. Labor for tie rods, 2.5 (remember they have to fill out paperwork at $75/hr and put the truck on the rack). So we have $175+$187+$362.50.. Doesn't sound like $615 even at $75/hr. I would reallllllllly ask what they were doing (they might be doing brake inspection or some other wild thing)and or find someone else. Jim
They ended up replacing the whole pitman arm (I'm 4x2) which was probably a bit much but it sure does ride better. They also did do a brake check and then told me I needed a $420 brake job... that didn't even include new rotors, they just had my old ones turned. Ugh, I hate being on the road and not having a choice in the matter. Lesson learned, should have had it done before I left, but oh well... live and learn... Thanks for the replies guys!
Given they replaced the pitman arm and pulled all 4 wheels their price probably isn't too far off. Consider I paid $330 for just front pads, no rotors, or calipers on my wife's Mercedes at the dealer,, $420 isn't too bad if they turn the rotors and they are still within specs. I paid $330 for drilled slotted rotors and pads on all 4 wheels for my Corvette and installed them myself. So the $420 isn't too far off the mark either. Jim
