I have an 03 7.3 psd and i got the Viper 791x because the factory alarm is pretty poopy, and it has the remote start, i got it off ebay for 200 and installed for 100... You should definitely look into one of these bad boys. I like using it because it gives my truck time to warm up, as i am less patient when i get in it and manually start it
I went with a Valet two-way remote start/alarm. And no...they are NOT plug and play. IF you are no comfortable with working with the wiring in your dash...have one installed.

I just figured there might be some thing like that but figured there wasnt. I can install it no problem. Im good like that. lol
The closest to plug and play is the Ford unit. If you are still under warranty then you should give it a look.
I have installed the Ford accessory remote start on my 2004 EX LTD. It works great, but it is far from a plug in type unit. (I quess because it was never offered as an option)
It took a week end to install, but I like to solder electrical conections, no crimp on connectores for me. There were about 25 different splice conections to the wiring harness, all under the dash or in the drivers kick panel area, plus one actually in the driver's door jamb wiring. This is NOT a simple install. I bought mine on ebay for about 1/3 of list price, and they always seem to be for sale. I quess people by them, read the installation manual, and sell out.
Will the remote start work correctly with the diesel and it's glow plugs. Do I need to wait for the glow plugs everytime I start my truck. I currently do, though I don't think it needs it. The lady I bought it from also always wanted for the glow plugs on every startup.
