engine sound "dies" before it idles while coasting
If I accellerate up a hill, and the road levels out..I let up on the pedal for a moment to coast, and it sounds like the engine just quit!....unil it coasts for a few seconds and it kicks back on. It's almost as if the engine had a sound switch..it makes the usual turbo whining, and accellerating engine noises..let off the petal, and silence.....for a few seconds, then it sounds like it's idleing again..Is this a problem?
It's happened to me several times on this one long turn just before my house and I've thought the engine died. Then as soon as I touch the throttle the glorious noise is back!
Sometimes when I am traveling down a steep hill (with cruise on), I turn the radio off to listen to the injectors. As you start to hit the point where gravity is equal to the aero drag you can hear the injectors getting quiter and then only a couple of them firing before they all turn off. Its one of the cooler things about the powerstroke that they dont waste fuel while decelerating.
She will not start fueling again until you get down to 1000 rpm or hit the throttle.
I love it in tow/haul mode too. I got to go down a 10% grade last week (not towing) so I bumped it into tow/haul. It was way cool hearing nothing and accelerating. I tapped the brake and wham, she down shifted to bring the rpm upto 3000.
