I have decided to take my 81 ford f-250 2 wheel drive and create a two wheel drive runner truck and show truck. I want it to sit about 3 or 4 inches lower and I want a lot of power. I plan to build a 302 into a 347 stoker and a 9'' ford rear axle. the axle is a limited slip But stock. What should I do for suspension to make it sit lower and not wheel hop when I MASH! the gas pedal? These trucks had traction problems so what should I do for more traction? Air ride would be great but how would you make it work with the twin i-beam front axle? could I posably do a front suspenstion swap to create the right ride hight? Please I am scratching my head on this one?
I'll assume that unlike the 4x4's this is coil front. You could get an airbag to replace the coil. Should be easy. Rear will be alittle harder, but there are tons of leaf to airbag 4 link kits around.
I would look to see if the F150 dropped I-beams would work. That would get you 3-4" drop in the front.
In the rear I would do a spring-under conversion. This is where the springs bolt to the bottom of the axle, not the top like they do now. I would aim for a 5" drop in the rear to match a 3-4" drop in the front.
For traction you can use normal traction bars that the car guys use, AKA "Slapper-bars".
As for the engine, I would run a 302 with a mini-blower on top. Get a basic forged piston shortblock rebuilt, add a set of good heads (windsor jr?) and the weiand mini-blower.
1. You'll love the power
2. You'll love the sound
3. You'll love the look on people's faces when you pop the hood.

or if you really want power get a 351 winsor and stroke that if youre already spending the money on the 302 stroked... the extra inches would help and itll still bolt up
If you want to see what a 4" front drop and 6" rear drop looks like look at the pictures in my gallery. I used 3" dropped I beams and 1" lowered springs in front. And I did a axle flip in the rear. It rides good. But if you decide to go with dropped I beams get beams designed for the 1987-1996 F-150 because they are designed to use ball joints instead of king pins. You will then have to go to the salvage yard and get the spindles, calipers, rotors from an 87-96 F-150. I purchased my beams from AIM industries. Just buy a TRUCKIN magazine they always have a huge ad in there. Good Luck!!!
