ok my truck decided to try and eat a firehydrant (sp) and it pushed the door in alot and lower panel behind and under the door.
the door no loner opens so i need to get this fixed. now i know of corse i need a new door! 80-86 F-150's have the same doors correct ? even if mine is the xl and the doner truck is not ?
now how do i go about repalceing the rest of the damage (the lower panel and behind the door. does this come sepearte from the rest of the cab or what? or will i need a new cab ? i hope not!
what you need is a new door, rocker panel and maybe floor pan depending how far its smashed. one of the sponsers on this site has all the parts you need fairly priced. i believe its blue oval truck parts. as for years im pretty sure 80 through 96 will work for doors but yes 80-86 will definalty work. the xl-xlt are trim levels so if your truck has xl the xlt door shouldnt be different.
all metal parts, 80-96 will be the same... The door panals are different, but they're interchangable. Newer truck=less rust... I'd do the cutting from as new of doner as possible. Check the doors over really good for rust damage, or rust repair.
The doors change in style slightly from major body style revisions. 80-86, 87-91, 92-96 I think are the splits. They will all work though. The later ones have a squared off vent window.
I agree that you should look for newer parts as they will likely have less rust.
Good luck and remember... Don't feed the fire hydrants...
once again thanks guys. im waiting on my paycheck to buy parts.
isnt the rockerpanel spot welded on ? if so i might just spend the extra money and buy a new one from lmc or the above location that littleme13 posted.
and get a junkyard door. plus iv wanted to get this truck painted cause it looks pretty bad with its messed up paint job. so now would be a good time after i repair the few rust spots on the fenders.
