Headlight Trim Rings
Gentlemen,
What color were most headlight trim rings painted? I need to resurface mine, but I can't decide on black or silver. The truck is red and silver and I think it would look good either way, so why not stick with the stock color?
I do have photos posted in my gallery. BTW, the grill guard and bug deflector are off and I'll probably post them for sale in the appropriate forum.

Trim Rings 
well since they were made from stainless steel.
Let's say they were all that colour *silver*
They weren't painted.
Unless you are talking the headlight BEZELS and not the trim rings.
Trim rings held the headlights on the headlight bucket.
Bezels were what finished off the headlight area.
They were usually painted the same colour as the fender.

Thanks for enlightening me. Bezels, they are!
I've browsed the galleries here and most bezels of my year and model are black. Rarely (if at all) have I seen one that matches the fender color.
Have all of these been painted inaccurately?

The bezels were usually black. They came in black, argent (silver) and chrome. Black looks good, and so does the chrome. Of course, it's easiest to paint them silver. According to my '79 Ford brochure, all of the models except the Lariat were black, but I have seen differences on actual production trucks.

The 60's and early 70's were the same colour as the fender I thought.
The colour depended on the trim package.
Ranger Explorers,XLT's, Lariats before 79 got Argent or Chrome ones as well.
The black was usually on the Free-wheeling and Custom trucks.

Mine is a Ranger XLT and I couldn't determine for sure if the bezels were black or silver. The more I look at them, I believe they were originally silver. Now comes the decision of going back to stock or going black. Thanks for your help guys!!
