6.0 Cooler Works

Last wednesday i replaced my stock cooler with a 6.0 cooler. My tranny temps had started to run a little higher than they used too without towing anything,(192-200),Not sure why. Took me and my 12 yr old son 4 hrs to change it and the tranny fluid. The cooler was a real pain(still have the scabs to prove it!!),although it is a direct replacement to the sissy sized factory 7.3L cooler. Luckily i had stocked up on the Original mobil 1 ATF,not sure what i will do next time.
Pulling my TT and my bass Boat the past few days i tipped the scales at 24,600 and my tranny temps never went over 169*. Of course i drive way to fast, but 72-75 just seems like the speed the truck wants to go.Seems the heavier I load it the better it pulls, Just unbelievable how strong these trucks pull. The night I left the temp never went over 160 with ambient about 90,had the cruise set on 75 most of the way until a trooper pulled me over,,Funny he gave me a warning and never said anything about having the TT and the bass Boat behind me? I was WORRIED TO DEATH.! I know i'm about 74ft long like this.
Today From Del Rio to lake Fork,545 miles up 35 thru austin, waco, dallas and etc, 169* was it and ambient was right at 100* the entire way. Went thru some rain and the temp dropped to 147*. I should have changed the cooler a long, long time ago. ABout 140 bucks and several scabs, but well worth it.
I also learned that I have to be very carefull towing in 40hp tow or 60 hp economy with the diablo and the AIS.There is no doubt my EGT's are up at least 100-150* since i got rid of the kwik Filter. I can hit 1200* Really fast if i stay in it at all.wastegate plugged in or not didnt seem to make a difference either,Without, i could hit 30lbs of boost pretty quick. Programmed back to stock about half way home today and no matter how long I stayed in it, it wouldnt get over 1050* and 22lbs of boost.
The more I pull, the more I luv my 5" Straight pipe, SOUNDS AWESOME!!!!

now that is a good story. must have been tenn01PSD that pulled you over...

it's too bad about that AIS... do you have the Zoodad mod to improve airflow to that little airbox?

Yes i do have the zoodad mod. Filter minder hasnt even made it half way up the gauge yet either. Wondered if i might have to do the fender sleeve, not sure that would help with EGT though. Dosent appear to be much if any restriction with the AIS.The difference if filtration is well worth the extra egt, to me anyway.

Overloaded.

Speeding.

Too long.

And all you have to worry about is your tranny temp?

If you had posted that you had just robbed a bank and shot the teller dead, would you expect everyone to give you "atta boys"?

You exceeded your GCWR by at least 20%. That's more than a "smidgen".

And no, not everyone towing a trailer speeds. How I drive my car is different from how I drive my truck when I have 10,000 lbs. hooked up.

jschira, you must be a cop or a Ford tech.

MrBass - I have not been to Lake Fork in about 15 years, but that is one heck of a fishin' hole!!

I tow 21K, 49' total length @ 60-65mph regularly.

No, just someone tired of people coming to these boards and bragging about their criminal activities. Activities that put me, my family and my friends in danger.
