I have a Garmin c330 and My fatherin law had a factory unit in his Dodge. Mine is so much better that I find his useless. Plus I can move it to my wife's car or to anywhere I want. Great for planning trips to have it in the house. I really think the installed ones are not nearly as good because they are installed. Spend the 1600 difference on a really great set of rims or something like that.
For $2,000, you can get a nice Eclipse double din head unit. Has navi and DVD capabilities - outputs for rear monitors. Throw a couple more dollars to it and add two monitors in the headrests for watching in the back. Cleaner look to me than the flip down models.
The Garmins are nice units also. Haven't seen one in person, but know people running them and say they work well...
