performance/economy carb?

performance/economy carb?
looking for a carb to give me the best of both worlds, with emphasis on economy. Do i want a small 2 bbl (390), or a large 2 bbl (500)? Or do i want a 4 bbl with small primaries and large secondaries? Specific carbs to go with suggestions appreciated.
(ps- i have a 300 backed by a manual 4 speed, 3.50 gears and 4wd)
