I know this has been discussed before and I've tried to dig up the past info, but can't find anything so here goes...
I'm looking for an auxiliary fuel tank to go in the bed of my 06 F250 ShortBed. I want the type that just taps straight into the stock fuel tank. I don't want to fuel from it at all. Just something that tucks away. Doesn't have to be really big, but I'm going to be pulling a ToyHauler soon so I don't want a bunch of fuel stops every 300 miles.
I can't remember at all the name of the company that sells these things, but FTT comes to mind. Unfortunately I don't remember what the heck that stands for if it is right at all(grin). Also if there are any other companies that anyone has used I'd like to know. I was thinking around a 50-60 gallon tank. I do remember the setup being really expensive @ $1100 and wondered if anyone has dones something less expensive without being to rigged.
transferflow is one of the best ,but they are a little pricee. so you could look are northerntool , etc but you will have to put it in and hook up your own fuel pumps ,etc. they are a lot cheaper , but are not legal in all states. there are 2 types of tanks ones that are legal as a 2nd fuel tank , and those that are legal for transporting fuel , not to be hooked up to the truck, now you can still hook them up. but may have problems if crossing state line and have to go through inspection ( I.E. CA )
but the fact is most people dont look ar Rv's very hard.

found a new 33 gal diesel tank off an Isuzu delivery panel truck at the truck junk yard,, tank and all fittings was $85,,, mounted to the front of the bed on my 2003 F250 SB 7.3 and is now mounted in my 2005 F350 LB 6.0 KR,, run an electric pump off the upfitter switches for transfer directly into the oem fill pipe,, has worked great for many thousands of miles on two trucks,,
over-all cost was about $115 after pump, fittings and hoses were purchased,, install time took about one afternoon,, install was just normal with nothing exceptional or difficult,,
OEM tank is 39 gallon and with the 33 gallon in the bed now have 72 on board,, does help picking those stops,,
Check with our illicit....I mean illustrious Admin...Mr. Tim Lamkin. I believe he added an aux tank before he had 100 miles on his F-350...'course, he probably only has 1,000 miles on 'er now...
there was no filter on mine but I added a reg fuel filter to it and a water separator just to be on the safe side, being that it set's awhile in-between use's
That's what I was thinking chadjones...I never know just how much I will be on the road, but for long hauls the aux tank has got to be nice. Also with Hurricane season on us...I remember NOT being able to find Diesel for days.
I replaced the factory plastic tank on my truck with the 46 gallon unit from TF and it's been great! I did the install myself in about 6-hours. I had it Line-X coated prior to install since I take my truck off-road frequently.
It takes the onboard computer a few miles to calculate properly after you fill up, but you'll get used to it.
i can go about 1800 miles freeway with mine without stopping ( empty truck , no load) now i just made a trip to Co from AZ and it was 960 miles, I pulled my 29 ft 5th wheel RV and a small quad trailer behind that. and just made it there but i was on vaper when i got there. passed up a lot of gas stations on the way, just stopping to walk around and let the dogs and kids out..etc
