[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Aug-02 AT 08:49 PM (EST)]What is the easiest way to remove the emblems from the side fenders without destroying anything?
Need to remove to paint...
Thanks
P.S. Does anyone near the Kansas City area and South have a bench seat with fold down middle for sale or trade for parts or 36(9)0 block?
The emblems themselves have molded posts, which press fit into brass or steel expansion inserts, much like plastic wall wall anchors. They simply pry out, but do each side a little at a time to avoid bending the posts. They're just pot metal, and break if bent.
Be sure to account for the inserts, they may come out with the emblem, stay in the fender, or may fall off. You'll need them to reinstall.
I use a thin plastic spatula to work it loose, then graduate to a thick one once I've got room. Of course, if you're painting, use a thin screwdriver, but don't bugger up the emblems!
Excellent advice! I use wooden shims (wedges). Tap them under the emblem near the post, one on each end. Same trick works for removing window and door handles. In fact I use these shims for lots of stuff, stiring paint, leveling furniture, shaping window guides, holding the window up while I work work on the regulators.
