Usually the Aux button is for an auxilary input. If that is the case, how integrated into the CAN bus is the ford radio? Could I put it in my 02?

Aux interface

You need a P.I.E. FRD-04AUX for 05-06. Google it, they run $80-$100.00 depending on where you order it. Plugs into the back of the radio and accepts RCA jacks and works great with aftermarket satellite, Ipod's, and mp3 players. Press the aux. button and go! They have other models for previous years, too,

Do a google search for PIE or P.I.E. They make an adapter that will plug into the rear of the radio and give you RCA inputs for whatever you want. I put one in my '06 and used it to hook up my XM radio and I also hook up an .mp3 player to it. Works great.

The AUX button is only really used in the Excursions, and that is in conjuction with the rear seat entertainment center. The wiring from the AUX port conforms to a CAN bus plug-in...which is of little, to no, use to most people.

As some others have pointed out, P.I.E. offers a couple different adapters that will convert the semi-proprietary CAN bus plug into usable pre-amp RCAs. I installed a FRD04-AUX on my '06 for integrating my iPod in with the stock system and could not be any happier with the sound quality.

You have to take off the bezel that surrounds the radio and instrument cluster so that you can get the radio out. It's super easy. It all just pops off.

Anyone have any pictures/descriptions of how the iPod set up looks? I have a 6disc factory set up and am curious where the connection wires from the PIE to the iPod will work. Thanks.

I used a PIE adpater in my '03 and by puching the CD button twice it shows CD1 or CD2 (CD2 is basically an AUX input due to the PIE adpater).

I hooked up my XM radio to it and love it!!!!

As far as installation, depending on your model year, some Fords have the 2 little holes to stick the removable tools into and others you unsnap the bezel to gain access. It is plug and play simple to hook up, plus one power connection.

I use a panavise.com mount (pictures in my gallery) and they make mounts just for IPODS as well... check them out and order a free catalog. I may order a "double mount" so I can have an IPOD and XM radio next to each other (hooks to same bracket). The panavise mount works great as it attaches to the screw holding the ashtray and no dash removel is needed... again look at my gallery for pictures of a very clean install.
