on the computer in the garage, someone must have been playing where they should not have been, and for the past 4 days, i have been getting a popup adult website. now i have 2 different popup blockers installed on the computer, norton av 2006, lavesoft ad aware home, and spybot search and destroy. i run everything as soon as this site pops up, but nothing finds the exe file.
how can i find the exe file so i can erase it from my operating system??
someone eh..... I recently had some spyware that no program was able to clean. I basically googled the name of the spyware plus removal and found a few forums which offered advice.....
Oh the days of the internet without mal/spyware/spam are LONG gone
one of the EX DRIVERS was using my shop office computer for his **** fix.
it won't happen again though. he is gone, and the computer is now password start protected. it just burns my cookies that that filth is now hidden in my hard drive. if it wasn't a 450gig drive in a 4 month old computer, i would just get a new drive and shoot this one with a few rounds out of the 44 magnum to make it unreadable.
If it bothers you that much, you could format and re-install. But that's a pretty serious step. If you can get the malware off, that ought to be good enough.

Have you dumped the temporary internet files and cookies?
Also try dumping the files under documents and settings\your username\Local settings\temp. You may need to turn on the option to view hidden files to see them.
These buggers can hide in the registry also. As recommended run Hijack this to see what is running and save the log file.. You can send it to me if you like...
Are you running Advanced mode Spybot? If you are, you can look at different things that are running and disable them.
Have you tried doing a system restore back to before you got it?
OK. advanced mode of spybot is what i use. i dump all temp files on average once a week, and only allow user session cookies, i don't store permanent cookies. i will have to try system restore to see if it Will work. i forgot about that.
Careful on that system restore, it may take your computer back a very long way & some of the programs that you want won't work (re-install them).
This is a virus/trojan that lavasoft will not find for you. Norton should, but I have not had good luck with it . Try avast, it is a free download & if it can't remove it has always given me the name that I could google finding a registery fix for it.
I would also suggest using firefox for your web brouser, it is much better than the current explorer.
I also would like to see the slob pay for your computer repair - I am thinking that seeing that $$ come out of his paycheck would hurt a lot more than just a firing. You would have someone as a working example for the rest.
i tried using firefox. in my opinion it stinks. upgraded itself every time i tried to do anything, and it shut itself off after each upgrade. i had everything turned off, and it still did it. i have much better success with internet explorer. only runs what i want to run, and does not download or update anything unless i let it.
and system restore did the trick. i reset to 08-01-06, when i knew everything was ok, and it has not popped up since i reset at 5 am

A lot of people like to use a blanket statement like 'use another browser' when people have problems with IE. Yes, it is a fact of life that idiots write code to exploit the weaknesses of IE, and that IE has the weaknesses to begin with but there are ways to avoid being attacked. I've been using three programs for over two years and haven't had any BHO's or hijacks in that time.
The programs are:
BHO demon - the most important one.
Spyware Guard
Spybot Search and destroy.
Of course, your mileage may vary, as to the effectiveness of these programs if you or other users of the PC are a habitual user of dodgy **** and warez/free downloads sites.
Download Grisoft (AVG) antivirus. It's a freebie and is very powerful.
I'd like to recommend Ad Aware, too.
I have found it to be a little more powerful than Spy-Bot, but, I do use them both.
Also, check your Task Manager to see if something is running in the background.
My wife is going to college and one site that she uses put some garbage on her pc several times and slowed it to a crawl.
One other item is running msconfig to see what is running and then turn it off, or stop it.
msconfig is the first thing i do. shut off everything that is not needed. and that means everything except for norton.
another favorite of mine is end it all. one click, and everything is shut down.

Glad to see System restore worked for you...
You need to make sure now that your protected against future junk..
I see you are running Spybot, but it may not be configured right. Do you hit the Immunize button after updating? Spybot does not automatically immunize every time. I have seen many customers who thought they were up to date, but acctually had options turned off.
Also Pop up blockers DO NOT prevent the software from being installed. They just stop the software from displaying the pop up.
I recommend using spywareblaster. It is freeware and works in conjunction with Spybot.. I run them and never have problems. I install them on all my customers PC's also..
To bad you didn't like it as the new explorer is working on having the same tools/options that firefox has (& more hopefully) The automatic update is easily changed for those who do regular program update checks.
Nice job on having a recent restore restore point. Most that I have looked at have not done that.
